  • Codename : Dolphin

  • The NPDP-GDEV is one of the Nintendo Gamecube development and testing systems

  • This unit was the early model of this development unit, but the final version of this unit is called the GBOX. It is the same internally, but is gray on the outside

  • It has an optical disc emulation system

  • The NPDP-GDEV uses a cartridge containing a hard disk. The hard disk and CPU of the host PC perform NINTENDO Gamecube optical disc emulation

  • The purpose of the hard disk probably was for early development of games, where the developers fine-tuned the game frequently

  • Units marked “β RELEASE” had/have pre-final internals

These units also had PCI cards made by a company called "Hudson" which allowed streaming of games from the host PC to the unit.
