  • This was an accessory for cars, in which you can play Game Boy Advance Games and DVDs.

  • This accessory was not sold in stores where you could find video games, you could only find it in car dealerships where it would either be sold separately, or it would be bundled with certain vehicles. It could only be distributed by two car companies, Nissan and BMW.

  • It also has a unique wireless controller. It could play the games of the Game Boy Advance remotely, however, not being a control officially launched by Nintendo its D-Pad quality was not very good. The only defect it had is that we had to play in a straight line pointing to the system, otherwise it lost its signal.

  • The Visteon Dockable Entertainment Featuring Game Boy Advance sadly isn't backwards compatible with previous Game Boy games, though is touted by some as the ultimate Game Boy Advance.

  • The dockable version retailed for $1299,out on July 2006 after its reveal at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2006 and the mounted headrest model retailed for $1699 and released on April 1, 2008.

Finally, I'm level 50!
Honestly, I think this is MUCH rarer than 10,000 units. For one thing, it's flown massively under the radar for years and years. There's hardly any detailed information on the internet about it. Second, it cost $1,300 at a time (2008) when portable DVD players were cheap and the GBA was already ancient. (Yes I know sneaking a $1300 upsell into a new car purchase is relatively easy, but still). Third, it only came as an option in certain car models, which limits its lifetime sales significantly. To get a new one of these back in the day, you really would've had to have been at the right car dealer, at the right time, with the right car model in mind, with children who would be interested in playing games, AND be receptive to the upgrade. That's a tiny market, and that's the ONLY place where this console is coming from. Trying finding one of these on the internet, it's incredibly difficult. I've been tracking this for about 8 years on eBay and I only see an average of maybe 1 a year. I managed to grab one a few years ago, and that was one of the last ones I've ever seen on eBay. Also, I've NEVER seen a listing or even a candid picture of the headrest-mounted version, so I'm not even sure if that version even released. Now that may be because people don't know what they're looking at when selling something like this, or maybe many of these are just sitting around still installed in cars at auto salvage dealers across the USA. But based on the overall extreme lack of chatter and lack of movement for this console, I genuinely believe it's on the much rarer end of the spectrum. It would not shock me if it only numbered in the low 4 digits. I wouldn't go so far as to say 3 digits, but... maybe? I'd love to find out what the real number is.
