About Me

What is your most memorable collecting story/experience?

A few years ago I was staying at my grandmother's house. She was doing some spring cleaning and tossing out a few things she didn't need (when I say a few, I mean a few. My grandma is a grade A hoarder.). I was digging through the items at the back of a cupboard in the guest bedroom to help her out, when I found an old shoebox covered in dust shoved right at the back, completely hidden from sight unless you were willing to dig through a pile of dusty board games. I was curious as to the contents, so I grabbed the conspicuously heavy shoebox and opened it up on the dining room table. Imagine my surprise when I realized I had hit the motherlode. Tucked away in that mouldy old cupboard was a Sega Mega Drive II and an Atari 2600 Jr, complete with controllers, games, and, in the case of the Mega Drive, the original box and manual! I nearly started screaming, as at that point the oldest console I had to my name was a Wii. I had never even seen a Mega Drive or Atari 2600 in person before, and here I was with both of them in front of me! I immediately ran to my grandmother, begging her to let me have the consoles. As it turns out, those consoles used to belong to my mum, who had left them there once she moved in with my dad a few years later, so of course they were basically mine by default. To this day I believe that is the luckiest I have ever been when it comes to collecting.
