These were produced when Microsoft acquired Yammer - which was in July 2012 and were given to all of the existing Yammer employees as gifts shortly after the deal was completed
There were, at that time, around 500 Yammer employees worldwide, most of which were based in San Francisco. There were other teams in London, New York and in Australia
Hi just read this and I happen to own one of these consoles, can we have further information regarding the evaluation of this device. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any more information eg the serial number.
Just found one of these in Novato California on a FB marketplace. The seller said he acquired it from his company. I did not ask which company he worked for. He had it since 2011.
The outside is a skin, so it is not a painted / dipped system (like colorware) so it's likely to have been produced for MS to give away as a promotion for the Yammer service.
Hi. I worked for Yammer before they were bought out by Microsoft, and still continue to work for Microsoft today. Here's the scoop on these consoles.
These were produced when Microsoft acquired Yammer - which was in July 2012, and were given to all of the existing Yammer employees as gifts shortly after the deal was completed. There were, at that time, around 500 Yammer employees worldwide, most of which were based in San Francisco. There were other teams in London, New York and in Australia. There are, consequently - US, UK and Australian variants of the console.
There were, therefore, very definitely more than 50 of these produced. A conservative guess would be that there were approximately 600 produced - around 500 or so for staff, and I believe some were given away as corporate gifts or prizes, and some were used in the various Yammer and Microsoft offices in rec/games rooms. The other comment is correct in that the console has a vinyl skin, and isn't dipped. I understand an actual rare touch with these consoles is that it represents one of the very last physical products Microsoft shipped with their old corporate logo.
I still own mine (PAL/UK model). It doesn't see too much use these days, but I'm still fond of it.
