Fake Collection Users (aka I Have Everything Users) Rant

Why do this site do nothing about them? You can add everything to your collection without proof, even if it's proven to be 1 in existence and is stored in a museum.

Yet admins not even delete those items from their collection.

This site needs to ask proof of ownership at least for rare things.

It's a problem that needs to be addressed.

The admins and a few well known users do know about this issue. If you were active in the Discord in 2023, some solutions were thought of, but then again, I wouldn't expect you to know about those, so here are some excerpts from that announcement:

"it should be NOT COMPLICATED for the user to prove ownership, for example: uploading a picture of the unit, with a paper with their name on it. too much of a hustel." "some high end collectors have around 20 limited editions in their collection, so it has to be easy for them to add things in their collection without a any trouble" "we respect someone's privacy as well, so private collectors should also have a way of adding," "Trust can be included, when someone has 2 / 3 limited editions, we believe he owns the 4th as well."

Last I've heard, this system is still in the works, but as a regular user of this site, I can't update you on where the process is now in it's current state. I'm only here just to let you know that they, the admins, know.

    👍 2

I was actually thinking about ranting about this also. Thanks for doing it for me!

Its like a one of a kind Gamecube signed by JFK with a pee stain on it and yet seven people "apparently" own its

I've seen this a handful of times. I'm not really sure how they could even go about avoiding the issue, because requiring more proof to say you own an item would be an immediate turn-off for any newcomers to the site. I think the solution would be to look into any accounts with more than 100 items, and investigate their account. Usually these 'own everything' users created their account recently, don't update the default profile picture, and don't provide a description or photos on their profile.

That would be a quick way to catch them. Another would be to monitor accounts to see if any are adding multiple extremely rare items to their page. I once saw an account that claimed to own the Atari Panther prototype, an Atari Lynx prototype and a Sega Pluto prototype. Obviously nobody can own all three, so it's clear the account was just adding anything.

Another good method would be adding a report system, so if you see a spam account like this, anybody could just report them, fill in their reasoning and the reports are manually reviewed by someone who works on the website.

    Hey :)

We are well aware of this issue, and the fact that it bothers serious collectors. We are working on a solution that is already being tested by us, but it isnt just as easy as a lot of people think. I was gonna have a talk with the team in like 2 days anyway and im gonna bring up yalls concerns and thoughts to this, the feedback is much appreciated. But like KoolAid3 said, we dont want to overcomplicate the system for newcoming users and like you said "turn them off". So there needs to be a balance in that system to make it go smoothly. Also most of the news when it comes to changes will be announced on the Discord server first.

Also if you have some particular profiles in mind, please send me their names privately via a DM in discord under the name __ kodiak __ or any feedback etc in the cv-feedback-suggestions channel on the CV discord :)

I hope this could clear up some questions

    Best Regards

    Kodiak

How many were aware of the two PS1 GPU versions?

While many these days see things like PS4 Pro, and PS5 Pro, not many are familiar with the PS1 and it's silent upgrade.  On launch in Japan, and the most earliest of US units (I think for the first year and a half?), they ran on a GPU that had some limitations.  For example, shaded polygons that are textured, lose the 8-bit shading and therefore get treated with 5-bit shading (visible banding).  They also ran on dual ported VRAM (2x 16-bit chips), whereas the later versions could shade entirely in 8-bit precision and used a single 32-bit SGRAM video memory IC.  The early GPU was also slower at alpha blending, but *faster* at blitting, making it a little better with the 2D games, but not so much with later PS1 releases with a lot of alpha blending such as FF8.

I'll attach a picture to show the differences.  Monsters Inc. Scream Team, and Tomb Raider are good games to check the GPU revision as the banding is just so obvious in them.

Left is an original PS1 revision A GPU, whereas the right picture is from my SCPH-5501 (the later revised GPU).

Another slight fact, is that if you get a very early launch SCPH-1001 prior to Christmas of '95, don't be surprised if the picture is slightly darker.  It's actually not a fault of the hardware, but a bug in the boot ROM (this would be version 2.0 for the US release), as it accidentally is using NTSC-J's 0 IRE, not the NTSC-M 7.5 IRE standard.  This was rather quickly fixed by Christmas with a patched boot ROM.

Two pictures of the same scene from Monsters Inc. Scream Team.  On the left there's visible banding in the picture while still being dithered, but on the right the picture is perfectly smooth with no banding, and still dithering properly.  The system on the left is mid 95, the system on the right is late 97.<br>

(I should mention, both pictures are not from the same TV/monitor. Left was from my TV, right was from my computers monitor using a RetroTink and apparently forgot what focussing was.)

    Remember the Switch Pro Rumors?

BRO, DID YOU SEE THE LEAK?
BRO, DID YOU SEE THE LEAK?

The Switch 2’s (actual) reveal reminded me of something from the creases of my brain.

Remember before the reveal of the Switch OLED, there were over a million rumors about a potential Switch 2. It was said to be “very powerful”, and they would always be like:

    “It’ll be revealed tomorrow.”

    (Next day. Nothing happens)

    “Oh, it’ll be revealed tomorrow.”

    And…. Repeat.

Then, out of nowhere, Nintendo revealed…

    A Switch….

    With a better screen. (Applause?)

Yep. All of those rumors about a powerful monster machine of a Nintendo Handheld, and what we got was a Switch with a better screen and better kickstand.

Anyways I’m gonna wait for another two months for the Direct.

Yes, around mid-2021 they were rampant. They were also pretty clearly fake, but before we knew what the Switch OLED was to be, any leaks about it were assumed to just be parts of a new 'Switch Pro'.

  • The metroid prime 4 special edition switch 2 has the most potential to be the coolest imo. An animal crossing special edition would be pretty cool too

    👍 1

a legends z-a limited edition and it's not even close

Maybe outdated, but I'd love to see them do another Funtastic-esc line of colourful, transparent consoles. I think a transparent black or transparent blue Switch 2 would look awesome.

    Odd Console

So I recently came across a Brown Swan Crystal from a guy on eBay.  I might've been dumb and this is all a lie, but I looked at it deeply.  The power button is orange and looks bizarre. Will update further when it arrives.

It doesn't look painted, since if he did it have to be black.  But the only one I know that is black is clear and it'd be obvious.

Well, I figured it out. Dang, i thought it was cool. At least I have another Wonderswan.

If it's brown, it's a " yellowed " Bandai SwanCrystal Violet Blue Console

What's the most outlandish console you want?

For me, I would pick the Atari Jaguar. Such a strange and kind of bad console, but it had some pretty neat games like the first release of Rayman, Wolfenstein 3D, Tempest 2000 and Alien vs Predator. Not to mention it's filled with charm. Beyond that, maybe the Atari Lynx, for similar reasons.

If I had to choose just one, I'd probably say the Bandai Apple Pippin @Mark White Console . It may be a bad console, but it was still a unique experiment and had features that were firsts for a console, like internet support and (From what I've gathered) cross compatibility with Mac (I'm also a fan of vintage apple stuff), so I think it'd be cool to own.

Now, if I had to choose a system that I actually have a decent shot of getting, I'd say the MB Microvision Console [EU] , mainly because it was the first portable game system (with cartridges), and just has such a unique cartridge design with the CPU being in the cartridges and whatnot. It also looks nice on a shelf and from what I've heard, quite a few of the games are fun.

    👍 1

Very cool! Microvision and the Vectrex are both great underrated consoles from what I've heard. The Bandai Pippin's an interesting choice just because it didn't have many games released for it, but it had the first Journeyman Project game, which was a decently popular PC series back then, and I think the Pippin release was the only console port until the 2010s.

If it wasn't so darn expensive, it'd make a great conversation piece in anyone's collection, and if your correct about the backwards compatibility with Mac games, a fun and unique way to play PC games from the 90s.

I already have a lot of unloved console like Bandai Playdia Console , Casio Loopy My Seal Computer Console , Amstrad GX-4000 ... I recently saw a Koei Pasgogo and I want one

Not a console itself, but an original DS is something I've always wanted. Sure, it's not as sturdy as other models and doesn't look as good, But still.

The original DS will always be a weirdly cool console. I always thought it's design looked very much like a toy or like a tool with the strange ridges on the top screen, and it was definitely the least reliable of all the models, but it's also got some sort of charm the other models don't have. Not to mention the GBA carts don't stick out of it like a sore thumb like on the DS Lite.

Original Nintendo DS Silver Tank new in box

hi everyone, I have a question for you, as I own an original EU Nintendo DS, the fat silver tank version, from 2005 if I'm not mistaken.

It's totally new, in box, I only opened it for pictures and to make sure it is still working. I've got it since the beginning, I'm the first and only buyer (took it for my father back in time, but when he tried mine, he felt the screen was too small, so I bought him a XL version later and kept this one). But when I decided to move 15 years later, I kind of "found" it in a drawer... totally forgot I got it

I can't find any other, from this type, neither on ebay nor pre owned websites. I'm wondering if anyone would know a rough idea of the value ?

I used the image tool I think it might be 100ish.

not sure I understand, this one is new, not a pre owened so I would not consider the price same as the one we can find in good condition on ebay

Oh yeah then probably at least 250ish I would assume.

it is a generic europen boxed nintendo ds, even if it is in very well conditions its value now is around 150€

This is not in very well conditions, it's totally new. I'm seeing a not that good one for $175 on ebay,

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/235799291811?_skw=nintendo+ds+silver+tank&itmmeta=01JGSZ5V5VBRDJ7T1SED5H7K11&hash=item36e6bba7a3:g:D2QAAOSwZL9nGRhZ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKl2XXIpCfKpYLpWijFiQpHBD4ZgAZxN2MSD2yHEXFip2VQjK0z93jbDw1Y4GMOR6SyTMQ%2BIbdjrXnLqrMcFKG5Ab7nJ3z38X805HTQM4bSeJgl7sV8tkoeOo%2FB0rGXOFU2GGjuxmn3TIrL7UGW7ppvCbzA2zck7l3glAIxtrArnI5jnaCl90YB6MCO7JQu%2F2L4VmVewv0zLwchrrCeppclYPfgOau60NuYnM59tQi%2Bl9Ppqlx3rsg7oL0QfaIgPWgn09VyeJcq6NRKoAr5To%2FhB%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4Szl7-GZQ

I'm guessing there is a difference still between a pre owned in this conditions and a totally new one. Again I can't find any other new one, like mine, so hard to udnerstand a price like that

that link does not count, you have to look at the sold items, not the listed. anyway, even if it is brand new the nintendo ds eur cib is not that rare or valuable, now it stays around 150/180€. it is a generic eur edition, not a limited edition

What is the weirdest hot you’ve heard from someone else about consoles?

I once saw a YouTuber (not gonna name who for just in case) that said how they wished Nintendo kept the DSI/3DS charger for the Switch instead of USB C. The problem is that the DSI charger is proprietary as all heck. And I get it, it’s convenient to have the charger from one thing to use on another, the thing is, USB C is that but is a lot more used and more powerful. Also, I doubt the DSI charger would’ve been able to power a switch dock, or heck, even probably keep the Switch alive plugged in. There are a lot of USB C chargers that aren’t as powerful as the Switch one, but it still works in a degree. In all honesty one of the weirdest and stupidest hot takes I’ve ever heard.  Let me know if I got anything wrong or if there’s something else I should’ve added. I usually am stupid in the degree of chargers.

The Switch absolutely needed the USB-C connection or the dock would never have worked. For the Switch to even output alt-DP video over the USB-C port (which the dock converts into HDMI), the Switch absolutely requires 15v or it'll never enable TV output, uncap the CPU and GPU speed and unlock 1080p. So yea, the DS style charger would never have been powerful enough to handle it.
