One of the 5 other people who say they own this is not being truthful. I own one of the 5 in existence (so there can only be 4 other owners). Microsoft ran a contest in several cities, Chicago and San Francisco we're two I can remember, I think Seattle might have been one also. The contest was held in 2010. I was the winner of the San Francisco one. Mine is currently being loaned to the National Video Game museum outside of Dallas, TX.

I got one as well 3 years ago and thought the same, so I contacted ColorWare and they told me that there were another 50 units produced apart from the giveaway ones. So in total there should be 55 units, according to ColorWare themselves.

Why would colorware produce 50 extra custom consoles that no one requested or paid for? That makes no sense.

It sure is a random number. 50 would have made more sense. But the sales person on ColorWare said that they sent out more consoles in different sweepstakes, even in Europe.
