Early prototype Nintendo 3DS system with interchangeable stick and d-pad positions revealed in the Iwata Asks interview of 27 January 2011 called "Hardware Concept". It was a modified but fully functional DS Lite model, its only purpose being to have people try out the two different positions of the stick and the d-pad and see which one is more comfortable for the 3DS model. There were thoughts about official release of a 3DS model with interchangeable stick and d-pad positions but they were quickly rejected.
