•  This is the development hardware for the Wii U. It does not have an optical disc drive, but you can emulate disc reads on the PC. The CAT-DEV has a hard disk drive. In the future, you will be able to use this hard disk drive for disc emulation (just like RVT-H for the Wii console used in the Starlight Fun Center 

This is the official development hardware for the Wii U. It fixes bugs in the V4 CAT-DEV. Major changes: 

• The hardware uses high-speed sharing of the instruction cache between cores (this was already possible for the data cache).
• Peak processing of triangles (polygons) has reached its final specifications. 
• The pre-fetch buffer for locked cache DMAs is now at its final size
